TEHRAN -- Association of Muslim Journalists (AMJ) in a statement issued Saturday gave key support for the police action in countering all manifestations of immorality and corruption in the society. The statement praised the police personnel who it said, "cracked down on the cases of the corruption and social disorder and stepped up efforts to promote the security for the benefit of citizens." It added, "The good performance of police made it possible for the individuals and families to come to social activities in an atmosphere dominated by comfort, confidence and encouragement."

A top police source said earlier that social disorder cases to be dealt with by police include armed robbery, harassment and loud noise in passing cars as well as transporting pets in vehicles. However, the police comments were followed by the last week remarks of Head of the Intelligence Service of the Iranian Police Hojjatoleslam Abdolhossein Ramezani who said, "Police officers were given orders to prevent gatherings as a means to promote and guarantee social security."

"Guaranteeing the security by countering the troubles made by agents of some political camps in the country is first and foremost obligation of the police forces, adding that "under the present circumstances where the country is under pressure from either foreign powers or some circles inside the country, the police has to play a vital role in preserving the security," IRNA quoted Ramezani as reporting.
